"Roof Cricket"-- Lake Lorraine, Shalimar FL
Pic’s 1-3 show the roofline on top of the chimney ‘without’ a Cricket (common name for the little roof built above the chimney to shed water). Water comes down the roof and ‘dams up’ at the chimney, usually leaking into the ceiling around the fireplace:
Just imagine all the roof water coming down and hitting the chimney...and just 'damming-up'. Anyone taking bets on whether this Brand New Roof would leak...?????
Now...look at all the Gravel Debris that has built-up just since the roof was done...now that's alot of Gravel...which holds water....
These pic's show the finished ‘cricket’ that we built around the roof to frame up and shed the water away from the chimney. Framed it up with rafters and ridge...sheathed it with 1/2" Plywood...and felted and shingled.......We did a 'French Cut' valley so we could put a continuous Tar Seam down the valley...and you can see the results...water shed around!
And after all the leak checks below...we swept off the roof and cleaned up our mess and went home.... but we put on the Ridgecapes on the ridge right after this picture before we left...
