How to save a woodrotted doorjam!
The problem jam...
|
We use a Ryobi drill bit (They don't call Chip the MacGyver for nothin!) |
In progress.... |
The aftermath! Looks pretty messy! |
Take a little sander and SAND DOWN the edges smooth. Clear debris. |
Using razor knife, cut away all edging and "shape" so that adhesive will take. |
THE CAVE!!! :) |
Preparing the epoxy resin... |
Getting your artisian palette ready. Apply tape around your workspace. |
Yes even cardboard works just fine! And you can throw it away right after use, so no clean-up! |
When ready to apply, pour small amount of activator which "sets" the epoxy and requires you to move SWIFTLY to apply onto Door Jam! |
Mix, mix, mix! |
APPLY! Pushing epoxy resin into the voided area. |
Smooth out epoxy resin as much as possible to minimize having to shave off later. |
Allow it to "set" almost dry... |
Sand and shave, sand and shave... |
Sand and shave, shave and sand... SMOOTH |
Applying another set.... start over with your epoxy resin and activator and get ready to roll! |
Might not be able to see this, but it's smooth and flush with where the brickmold is... |
Using a primer block (to block all further moisture as well as prep for paint) and spray over area.
Weatherseal was too long, bending toward the bottom, creating an avenue for water and moisture to penetrate back behind brickmold. |
Cut away bottom of weatherseal to allow for a good seal. |
Caulk at bottom for the perfect seal.... |
Voila! A perfect brickmold and you didn't even have to change out the whole door! :)
